General Requirements

Mushers come in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. Below are few qualities that we look for in new hires. You don't have to meet all of them, but the more that you do, the more likely we will seriously consider you for the job.

  1. Punctual - There is a lot of work to get done in the mornings before guest sleds can go out. If you are late, the other drivers have to work harder or guest sleds go out late.
  2. Hard working - This job is not easy. If you don't have the desire to work hard, look somewhere else.
  3. Patient - The dogs do not always perform perfectly, and the guests do not always show up on time.
  4. Medium sized - Most drivers are between 5'6" and 6'0" and 140 to 180 pounds. Smaller people have a hard time controlling heavy loads of guests and bigger people require too much dog power.
  5. Quick learner - There is NOT much time after the snow falls to get ready for guests.
  6. Adaptable - Guests always keep us on our toes by showing up early, late, with more people, heavy, too cold, with dogs, unannounced or not at all. We deal with it.
  7. Well traveled - The more of the world you have seen, the better you can relate to our international guests.
  8. Multilingual - Our guests come from around the world. If you know a few languages, you can communicate with them better.
