No qualified dog sled kennels
Our family offered dog sled rides to the public in the Fraser Valley since 2000. We had an amazing time with our dogs and will miss the satisfying work. We prided ourselves on the care we gave our dogs and the safe family activity we offered our guests.
Since we are no longer offering rides, another company is trying to fill the void. Dashing thru the Snow has been doing dog sled rides illegally (with no kennel license from the state) since 2017. They got into the business to make a quick buck, but had no prior experience.
In January of 2019, after three seasons of operation, they sent their staff on a dog sled ride with us. They used an assumed name and made up a fake story about visiting in the area, so we wouldn't know who they were. It was painfully obvious to us though. During the ride they asked many questions about how to operate a dog sled business.
They asked questions like:
- How much do you feed the dogs?
- How do you groom your trail?
- How do you keep your dogs from fighting?
- How do you keep your dogs from breeding?
- How do you keep from crashing into trees?
After three years of operation, you would think they would have figured that out by then. In October of 2019 they were advertising for a musher position with their kennel. I am not sure who would train this person, as I don't think they have a person working there experienced enough to work in the industry, let alone train another person.
So, for these reasons, we do not think they are qualified to operate a safe activity for visitors to the area.
