Our name is "Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park", but some people like to say "Dog Sleigh Rides of Winter Park". After some searching, the dictionary seems to indicate that sleigh and sled are synonyms. They way we see it though, sleighs are pulled by horses, and sleds are pulled by dogs.

Dog Sleigh Rides of Winter Park has 80 Siberian and Alaskan huskies. During the winter, the dogs pull sleighs in the forests near Winter Park. They love their job and can't wait until we have enough snow to take out guests.

The Ride

NOTE: Our ride is a passive activity in which our guides do the driving, and all customers are passengers.

Here is a basic timeline for our winter sleigh rides.

  1. Arrive at your scheduled ride time. If you show up too early, we may not be ready to receive you.
  2. Check-in with the Guest Wrangler in the smaller green building. If no one is there, please wait for us. DO NOT wander around looking for us.
  3. Sign the liability waiver.
  4. Step on the scale. It is important to know the combined weight of the passengers in the sleigh as our sleighs have weight and height restrictions.
  5. Make sure you have your hat, gloves, goggles, and camera.
  6. Walk back to the dogs as a group with the Guest Wrangler.
  7. Get introduced to your driver and loaded into your sleigh.
  8. Watch the driver hook the dogs to your sleigh.
  9. Enjoy 45 minutes (about five miles, depending on speed) on our private trail system.
  10. Take pictures and learn about your sleigh dogs.
  11. Return to the kennel.
  12. Pet, kiss and take close up pictures with your sleigh dogs.
  13. Thank your dogs and your driver, and then head back to the check-out area.
  14. Shop for amazing Dog Sleigh Rides of Winter Park merchandise.
  15. Leave a gratuity for your driver and settle your bill.
  16. Tell all your friends about us!

There are weight and height restrictions for the passengers on the sleigh ride.

During the ride, all passengers remain in the sleigh as the experienced musher expertly guides the sleigh down the trail. Along the way, the guide will point out any wildlife tracks (or actual wildlife such as moose and coyotes), take pictures for the guests and answer any questions about dogsleighding or local history, attractions and activities.

The ride lasts 45 minutes in the sleigh and you will spend a total of about an hour and a half at our location. We have many trip patterns that we can cover during your time on trail. The driver chooses the best one based on the trail conditions and performance of the dogs. The trails are situated on private property and we cannot allow guests to walk or ski on the trails. We get to see some amazing views along the way including 13 thousand foot peaks, the Continental Divide, Winter Park Ski Resort, and of course lots of snow and dog butts.

Reservations are required for all services. You must have a major credit card to pay a 50% or 100% deposit at the time of booking.

Risks and Rules

If you are coming for a ride with us, it is helpful to read our risks and rules before you show up. We will review these with you before your trip, but if you already know them, your time with us will be safer and more enjoyable. Also below is a waiver. If you have a large group coming, it is helpful to have the liability waiver signed by everyone before you show up as well. It saves a little check-in time.
